| Name: | Gaignun Kukai, Jr. |

| Website: | Recounted |
Legal Name; Gaignun Kukai, Jr.
Real Name; Rubedo Yuriev
Gender; Male
Height; 4' 7" (140 cm)
Weight; 84 lb (38 kg)
Age; 26; looks 12
Background; Like Albedo, Rubedo has quite the history related to the city of Vartas. His father governed it, but it wasn't meant to last. Due to conflicts between the Church and Dmitri Yuriev in pursuit of of certain texts known as the Song of Nephilim. Things had already started to go awry by that point, though, due to rumors that weren't completely false in relation to the Yuriev family, but the conflict that ended up breaking out ended it all with quite a bang.
In an attempt to keep their home steady, the four youngest children attempted to use their knowledge of their father's alchemy for the good, but it backfired. Their fathers' experiments had already made their appearances slightly different, but further dabbling only cemented their role as variants from society.
Albedo had been driven mad by it, and when it came right down to it, Rubedo chose to abandon him with his other younger brother, Nigredo. He hadn't a clue what had happened to his older brother or younger sister, and in the end he had to accept that they would never be a family again, dysfunctional or no.
In Sandomierz, Rubedo and Nigredo were assisted by a noble who used to be a general named Helmer. He'd heard the rumors of Dmitri Yuriev, but chose to help out the brothers instead of turn them over to the church for their heathen activity. Instead of raising them on his own, though, he realized that while they were nobles, they were far from soft headed. They had plans, and Helmer seemed willing to help fund those plans for reasons unknown.
Rubedo and Nigredo took on new aliases, and a fictional noble was created with Helmer's assistance, along with a few higher-ups that had owed Helmer some favors. Soze Kukai never existed, but it was recorded that he died shortly after starting up a trading company by the name of the Kukai Trading Foundation.
As they got older, Rubedo realized that his appearance didn't change, as a result of the transmutation attempted years earlier, and so he was legally listed as Soze Kukai's grandson, and Nigredo's son. So they took on the names Gaignun Kukai and Gaignun Kukai, Jr. after a cat they once owned.
The Kukai Foundation soon managed to stand on it's own two feet without any help from Helmer, but the brothers continued to remain friends with him as they got older. Nigredo learned to deal with the politics and documenting and negotiations, with the help of his older brother, and Rubedo handled the shipments. They specialized in silk, but as the company grew, so did the variety of their shipments.
Now they're twenty-six, even if Rubedo still appears twelve, and the company's booming. It's finally big enough to ignore tension between warring countries, and travels far and wide. The main ship is named the Durandal, manned by Rubedo and a loyal crew he hand-picked himself. Usually at his side is his loyal dog named Asher, though the mutt's starting to get a bit old.
It was never confirmed if they actually had any documents related to the Song of Nephilim, or why they chose the path of trade and commerce, but the Kukai Foundation seems to be handling some extra jobs on the side. Those jobs are also handled by the Durandal most of the time, which is outfitted with quite an array of weapons. If asked, he would say it's all just part of his collection, but it comes in handy when pirates attempt to commandeer.
